A personalized cutting board is one of the most practical gifts that still feels like something you'd frame. Family name, established year, a short phrase — laser engraved deep into hardwood so it never fades, never peels, and outlasts every kitchen remodel. I make them to order at Palm Coast Customs in Estero, Florida.
What Makes a Laser Engraved Cutting Board Different
Most "personalized" cutting boards are printed or painted. The personalization is surface-level — sometimes literally. A laser engraved board is different. The Thunder Nova 51 CO₂ laser I use burns the design into the wood fiber itself. The result is permanent contrast — dark engraving against the natural grain of the wood — that doesn't wash out, scratch off, or fade with regular use.
I'm Veronica Ramirez. I've engraved hundreds of boards in my Estero, Florida studio, and the cutting board category is one of the most consistent products I make. Here's what I've learned from doing them regularly.
Materials I Use for Engraved Cutting Boards
The material makes the biggest difference in how the finished piece looks and how it's used.
3mm Baltic birch plywood is what I use for decorative boards and display pieces — family name signs, gift sets, kitchen wall décor. The grain is tight and fine, which produces high-contrast engraving with clean edges. It's not a cutting board you'd use to chop vegetables daily, but as a gift or display piece, it's beautiful and surprisingly durable.
Hardwood blanks — maple, walnut, and bamboo — are for functional cutting boards. These are the boards that go on the counter and get used. Maple engraves with a warm golden tone. Walnut gives deeper, darker contrast. Bamboo has a grain pattern that makes even simple text look distinctive. All three handle kitchen use, dishwasher-safe depending on the board, and the engraving holds up over time because it's burned in, not applied.
For decorative pieces intended as gifts, I recommend Baltic birch or maple. For working cutting boards the recipient will use daily, walnut or bamboo.
Popular Personalization Options
Family Name Boards
The most-ordered design: the family last name in large script, sometimes with "Est. [year]" below it, sometimes just the name alone. These work as kitchen centerpieces, housewarming gifts, or anniversary presents. The family name board that sits out on a counter is seen every day by everyone who visits the house.
I can do any font style — script for something classic, block letters for something modern and minimal, serif for something that feels traditional.
Wedding Gifts
An engraved cutting board is one of the most requested wedding gifts I make. "The Ramirez Family · Est. 2026" or just the couple's last name and wedding date. The board goes into the kitchen on day one of the marriage and stays there. I've shipped these to bridal registries, wedding planners, and couples across SWFL and nationwide.
For wedding cutting board gifts, I recommend ordering by the RSVP deadline — not the wedding date — to give enough time for proof approval and production.

Real Estate Closing Gifts
The engraved cutting board is one of the top items real estate agents order from me. "The Johnsons · 123 Oak Lane · Est. 2026" makes the closing gift personal in a way that a generic bottle of wine doesn't. I work with individual agents and full brokerages across Fort Myers, Naples, and Estero on closing gift orders — single pieces for individual closings, or bulk sets for agents who close regularly.

Housewarming Pieces
A family name board with the new address engraved below it is the ideal housewarming gift. It acknowledges the new home specifically — something a candle or a gift card can't do. These are the kind of pieces the recipient hangs up immediately and keeps for the lifetime of the house.
Hostess and Holiday Gifts
A smaller engraved board with a short phrase — "The [Name] Kitchen" or just a monogram with a decorative border — makes a gift you can give for any occasion. These are popular for holiday gifting, hostess gifts, and thank-you presents for clients in service industries.
How the Ordering Process Works
- Text or DM with: what you want engraved, the style you're going for (classic/modern/minimal), and whether you need it shipped or will pick up locally in Estero, FL
- I send a digital design proof within 24 hours showing exactly how it will look
- You approve the proof — nothing goes to the machine without your sign-off
- I produce it and have it ready in 3–5 business days for most single-piece orders
Pricing depends on the blank size and material. Most gift-sized cutting boards are in the $45–75 range engraved. Large serving boards or custom sets are priced on request.
